It has never been more critical for students to become engaged in the 2015 agenda of the United Nations to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Following the summit of the G7 nations in Cornwall UK recently, we have become more focused on involving learners to take ownership of raising awareness about the SDGs.
The Global School Alliance (GSA) and LeapEd Services have joined forces to launch a unique ‘Sustainable Development Goals Competition’ for learners globally. The international competition links both organisations based in the UK and Malaysia and their networks of schools around the world.
James Blomfield Head of Education for GSA says “We feel that it is imperative for students to engage in real issues and that school curricula include authentic opportunities for children and young adults to participate in the sustainable development agenda. We are so proud of this project and delighted to be working closely with LeapEd Services. Partnerships of all kinds will be the solution to so many of the challenges in our post-pandemic world and we want to hardwire this into the curriculum.”
Jasmane Frans, an Independent Consultant for LeapEd Services says, “Global Learning and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are increasingly becoming reliable methods for engaging learning communities during the pandemic. It has not only added value to curricula, but also enhanced achievable learning and collaboration between parents, students and teachers.”
At the LeapEd Services event at 4pm MYT, Founder of T4 Education, will be speaking and announcing the winners, and Rt Hon Lord Jim Knight at the Global School Alliance event at 4pm UK time. Recently Lord Knight published a joint article with Selaine Saxby MP in The Times newspaper that suggests flipping the way we teach. The climate crisis and the way learners respond to global learning and the SDGs, could be just what young people need in education today.
