As part of a monthly series, we're delighted to follow Benjamin Barker's journey to the opening of King's Leadership Academy Wavertree, Liverpool

April 2025

Welcome to the latest update on our journey toward the opening of King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree in September 2025. We’re excited to share our progress and recent events that bring us closer to welcoming our first Year 7 cohort.

Exploring AI in Primary Education

This month, I visited Barrow Hall Primary School in Great Sankey to explore the exciting potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in supporting pupil progress and reducing staff workload. The morning was spent discussing practical applications of AI tools within the classroom and how these innovations could benefit both staff and students. A huge thank you to the staff and pupils for such a warm welcome. We’re excited to continue this collaboration and look forward to developing tools that can be shared across the Great Schools Trust. Some of the ideas discussed are already being considered to enhance our own Year 7 homework marking and feedback processes.

Connecting with the Community

At the end of March, we were proud to take part in a local community event in Wavertree, designed to highlight the support, services, and opportunities available in the area. It was a fantastic opportunity for residents to connect, stay informed, and engage with all the wonderful things happening locally. We thoroughly enjoyed catching up with friends from the Neighbourhood team, Love Wavertree, and The Wavertree Society. Events like these reinforce our commitment to being an active, supportive part of our local community.

Planning Permission Approved!

We’re thrilled to announce that planning permission for our temporary accommodation was submitted in mid-March—a major milestone on our journey toward opening in September 2025.

While full details are available on the Liverpool City Council Planning Portal, we’re excited to share renderings of our temporary site, which includes essential facilities like science labs, a Design & Technology suite, changing rooms, a dining hall, and all the classrooms we’ll need in our first year.

We’re incredibly fortunate to launch in a brand-new building, with an even bigger, cutting-edge final campus on the horizon.

Supporting the Next Generation of Teachers

Earlier this month, I along with Mr. Hussain (Principal of King’s Warrington) attended the Maths Mock Interview Day at Edge Hill University, supporting trainee teachers in their preparation for the profession. The event, run by Hays, showcased the outstanding quality of future educators emerging from EHU. “It was inspiring to speak with so many passionate trainees and learn about their journey into teaching. I hope some will consider applying to join a King’s school—we’d be lucky to have them.”

Empowering Staff with Google Tools

In early March, I led a session at King’s Northway Primary Academy on making the most of Google tools in the classroom. Since joining the Great Schools Trust, staff have increasingly embraced the Google Suite, and this session was the perfect opportunity to deepen that knowledge. It was great to hear how staff are embracing technology. We even ran a live ChatGPT demo to show how AI can support resource creation and save time! A big thank you to all the KNPA staff and pupils for their warm hospitality.
